AWARDS

barack obama has been given a noble for peace. he has been given at first shot what his hero, infact our very own hero mohandas karamchand gandhi failed to get even after being considered five times. yes, its true the same gandhi we have been idolising since our childhood. the same guy with a 1000 watt smile on his face peeping through our currency.

who is responsible for this the noble committee? what would they do poor people they must have been too busy to give away the prize to this half naked fakir roaming around trying to spread peace. stupid old fakir they might have thought.

this is not the first time that someone qualified enough failed to get the noble not only for peace but literature has also got this jinx. the rules are simple for other fields. do some ground breaking work on something and wait for the call. but it isn't the same situation for peace and literature. there is a huge political interference there is a view that noble literature and peace prize is awarded to induviduals whose political stance at a given moment is found to be sympathetic.

not only noble and all other numerous international awards the is the situation in our homeland. closer home the situation is a lot worse and clumsier. the fight for the padma awards has reached an all time high and the values are reaching an all time low. there is an allegation that maestro ravi shankar used his close associate who happens to be a member of parliment to get a bharat ratna. some rti activists have gone to the the extent of filing a petition against the irregularities maintained in the meetings of the padma award committee. in response the union ministry was forced to admit that no specific records of deliberations of padma award committee is maintained.

now, let us assume that the petition filed by the rti activists is indeed true. even if it's not one can not deny the fact that political influence play a strong role when it comes to awards at any level.

if this situation continues then our future generation the younger lot of influential parents would ask for a padma award or a bharat ratna as a birthday present........

  1. rofl! i like the interesting last line..but like you said the problem with any award for that matter is that more often than not the committee responsible doesn't have a set of norms..and i'd say you cannot even define norms for awards..any award is always personal..prob'ly i believe the deserving oscar should've gone to a movie you didn't like..btw, read this piece..it might interest you..
